RE: Winterizing in North Carolina

Welcome to the Tarheal State. I'm from Eastern NC and it does get cold enough to freeze water in the winter. All I do is drain the lines, gray, black and water heater tanks and put a little of the pink stuff in the sink drains and I'm good to go. I hope that helps.

RE: 30 foot or 34 foot...is the 4 foot difference a big deal?

It's a matter of having the right TV for the job. I've found that my 33' (from hitch to bumper) is easier to tow and back than a 15' is. Find the trailer that floats your boat and then you will know the size TV you will need. Take the GVWR and add at least 10% (20% would be better) and then go shopping for your TV if the one you have isn't big enough to handle the proposed new RV. I know it's a little scary at first, but if you keep the respect for what you have behind you, you'll do fine.

RE: 5-in-1 Power Station - Anyone have one?

While this may do a fair job for what it was intended, you wouldn't be happy with it. It wouldn't take much more to get one of those yellow generators. You may have to paint it red to keep the noise down (from those that love the color red).

RE: Power awning

I have a Carefree that doesn't adjust and am wondering if there is an upgrade kit for it that would add adjustment. Also if it does exist, how much would it cost?

RE: July 4th camping trips

We're going to Lake Gaston NC on Thursday. We've visited there by car as it's only a couple of hrs drive. It's a beautiful area.

RE: Curved Shower Curtain Rod?

I got one for my home from Lowe's. I would say that the careful use of a hacksaw would make it work for an RV.

RE: best light weight travel trailer

I think you'll find that there will be several "Best" light weight TT that are advocated in this forum. For example, my preference is the Jayco Jay Feather. That's my opinion as I bought one. My second choice was the KZ Spree. Others will have different opinions.

RE: Our First "Puckering" Experience

Having to change clothes was worth it as long as you and yours are safe. Glad to hear the Equalizer did it's job.

RE: Tips on Driving with new TT

I suggest that you get a book called "Next Exit". It has all of the exits on the interstate highways and what services are at them. It also tells you the "RV Friendly" places for gas and other things. It will let you plan, on the fly, where you need to stop for the new gold (gas). Take your time to do anything and have fun.

RE: jayco tire clearance 08 25F

I had the same problem with my 2008 JayFeather 31E. They changed the axles and all 4 tires. My clearance was only 1/2". After the fix, it's working just fine.

RE: gas mileage?

We just got back from a trip to Virgina. Going up I watched the speed (no more than 60 unless going down hill) and RPM (around 1800) and tried to keep it from shifting without loosing too much speed and got 11.2 MPG. On the way back I set the curse on 60 and lit it go and got 9.5 MPG. This was on I95 and I64. My 1/2 ton 2008 Chevy has a "Fuel Mgt" system that puts the engine in 4 cylinder mode when there is not much need for power. It gets around 20 MPG unloaded on the highway.

RE: Can you use Propane and Electric same time on water heater?

We use both when we are taking a shower and then only use electric at other times. You just have to remember to turn the gas off after you finish with your shower.

RE: Champion Generators...again

You will not be popular if you take it out in a campground. Even if you never start it. You will be creating too much noise. I believe that most of the noise will come from people that wish they had never been sold and are in love with the colors red or blue and hate yellow. They are not as quiet as the Honda or Yamaha generators, but they are quieter than the normal "Contractor" type of generator. I have a Champion and a "Contractor" and the Champion is quieter than the Contractor. The Champion is NOT as quiet as the Honda or Yamaha. It is within the requirements of the Forest Service so I don't care.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

RE: TT w/ Pickup Truck..open box vs. tonneau vs. cap(topper)

The MythBusters say that you get better mileage with an open bed. I have an "UnderCover" Tonneau on my Silverado mostly to keep things clean, dry and away from sight (If they don't see it they won't be tempted). You have something much bigger than your tailgate behind your TV that will cause the mileage to go down.

RE: chocks-what size pipe clamps?

I would use 1/2" as you don't need a lot of pressure to stop the wheels from moving. It would help if you designed something to lock the chock in place to secure your trailer.

RE: Wheel Well Tire Clearance in a Jayco JayFeather 31E

Well, it looks like everything is as it should be. We just got back from a long and HOT weekend at the Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay Preserve in Gloucester, VA. It was a 220 mile trip each way and the axles sure made towing an easier and more relaxing experience. The TT now sits about 1 1/2" taller and I think I'm going to have to adjust the Equal-i-zer hitch to adjust for that. I'm still trying to get the balance correct. I think I'm still a little tail heavy because of the rear kitchen.
Thanks for all of the advice and support.
